Uchikake
Women’s bridal robe with trailing skirts worn over a kimono
Uchikake is a formal female robe worn by brides on their wedding day.
It is generally not worn by anyone other than the bride on her wedding day.
The decoration of uchikake is sumptuously decorated throughout with embroidery, shibori, gold leaf, and other patterns that make the entire piece look like a gorgeous painting.
Uchikake is thickly tailored with cotton at the hem, giving volume to the robe. It flows beautifully at the feet.
Uchikake is an outer kimono or robe, usually worn over a ‘kakeshita’ (wedding kimono).
