Furisode (Long-sleeved kimono)
Furisode is formal attire for unmarried women.
It is a very glamourous kimono with high prestige.
It is characterized by long sleeves that reach the hem of the kimono’s full length.
The pattern is known as ‘eba’, which like a Visiting kimono, appears like a painting across the seams when unfolded.
The material is silk and the pattern is dyed.
Gold leaf and embroidery are added for a more luxurious and gorgeous finish.
The pattern is a festive pattern called kissho monyo (auspicious).
Furisode are worn at weddings and coming-of-age ceremonies.
It is formal attire and may be worn by the bride.
The obi and accessories that go with the furisode are different from those for regular kimono – they are particular to the furisode.
