About us

I am Yasuki Masuda, Store Owner.

My family’s business specialised in dyeing fabric for kimono since my great-grandfather’s generation. We used to work with the yuzen suminagashi dyeing technique.
Unfortunately, the kimono industry is in decline and the scale of the industry is shrinking year by year. Sadly, the dyeing business ended with my father’s generation. Inspired by my knowledge of this traditional industry, I worked for a kimono shop after graduating from college and started selling reused kimonos on eBay in 2009.

For Japanese people today, wearing kimono is more difficult than wearing western clothes. For a long time, kimonos have been worn less. Even though they may want to, dressing in a kimono takes time and people are not always certain about traditional etiquettes surrounding occasion and whether the kimono and obi match or whether it looks good on them.
Certainly, it is important to respect kimono culture and to wear kimonos in the correct way. At the same time, we want people to enjoy wearing kimonos more freely and casually in their own original ways.

Kimonos are usually unique - kimonos with the same pattern are seldom available. We hope you will find your favourite kimono in this store. If you find one, we hope that you will treasure the experience of wearing a kimono!

The following is part of our kimono knowledge, please take a look if you are interested.

Best regards.
Yasuki Masuda
